FIMER acquired ABB's solar inverter division in 2020, inheriting decades of inverter engineering expertise and a strong installed base in Australia. The Italian company, founded in 1942 as an electrical equipment manufacturer, brought its own power electronics heritage to the solar market.

In Australia, FIMER inverters are found on many WA homes that were originally installed with ABB-branded inverters. The company continues to support the existing ABB solar inverter fleet while developing new products under the FIMER brand. Their residential inverters (5-8kW single-phase) offer Italian engineering quality but face stiff competition from Asian manufacturers on price.

The transition from ABB to FIMER created some uncertainty in the Australian market regarding long-term warranty support and brand continuity. While FIMER has maintained a Melbourne support office, some installers have shifted to other brands. The inverters themselves are technically solid, with good efficiency ratings and robust build quality.
