SSL update watch: what a new listing means for WA buyers

The Supported Solutions List (SSL) is maintained by Synergy and determines which battery systems can participate in WA's Virtual Power Plant (VPP) programs, including Synergy Battery Rewards. When a product appears or changes status on the SSL, it directly affects whether you can earn VPP credits and access certain rebates.

Why the SSL matters

Not every CEC-approved battery qualifies for WA programs. The SSL adds an extra layer of verification specific to Western Australia. A battery must be:

• CEC-approved (national requirement for any grid-connected installation)
• Listed on the SSL with the correct firmware version (WA-specific requirement for VPP participation)
• Installed by an SAA-accredited installer using the approved configuration

Without SSL listing, you can still install the battery and claim federal STCs, but you won't be eligible for Synergy Battery Rewards or other WA VPP incentives.

What to check before you sign

When your installer quotes a specific battery model, verify these details:

1. Model codes. Ask for the exact model number (e.g., "Sungrow SBR096-D5" is listed differently from "Sungrow SBR128-D5"). Screenshot the SSL entry for your records.
2. Firmware requirements. Some batteries are only SSL-approved with specific firmware versions. Confirm that the unit being installed will ship with the approved firmware, or that an update is included in the installation.
3. "Pending" status. If a device shows as "pending" on the SSL, it has been submitted but not yet approved. Clarify the expected timeline with your installer and discuss alternatives if the approval is delayed.
4. Inverter compatibility. The SSL lists battery-and-inverter combinations, not batteries on their own. Make sure your inverter (existing or new) is part of the approved pairing.

When listings change

Synergy updates the SSL periodically. Changes can include:

• New additions: a previously unavailable battery becomes VPP-eligible
• Firmware updates: an existing listing is updated to require newer firmware
• Delistings: rare, but a product can be removed if it no longer meets requirements

If you've already installed a battery that gets delisted, your existing VPP enrolment is typically grandfathered, but this varies by program terms. Always check with Synergy directly if you're concerned.

The current SSL is published on the Synergy website. Check it within a week of signing any battery contract, and confirm your chosen system is still listed with the correct specifications.
