The IQ Battery 5P uses Enphase's microinverter approach. Each 5kWh unit contains four embedded microinverters delivering 3.84kW of continuous power. If one microinverter fails, the others keep operating. Each unit offers 5kWh of usable capacity and stacks up to 16 batteries for 80kWh total. AC coupling means it works with any existing solar system, although pairing with IQ8 microinverters opens the full Ensemble feature set. Grid-forming means the system can restart solar production during a grid outage without a grid reference, a feature many AC-coupled systems lack. The Enlighten platform shows per-microinverter data. The 15-year warranty (or 6,000 cycles at 60% retention) is among the longest on the market and reflects confidence in LFP cycle life. The trade-off is more hardware per kWh, which raises upfront cost and footprint compared to monolithic batteries. For Perth installations, the LFP chemistry and IP55 rating cope well with the climate. The modular design suits homes with space constraints or planned future expansion.
