What makes a WA claim take longer than just buying and installing?

The WA Battery Scheme pays $130 per kWh of usable capacity, capped at $1,300 — reached at 10 kWh. A battery has to be at least 5 kWh to qualify, and one larger than 10 kWh still participates, it just receives the same capped maximum. The rebate is only paid once the system is signed up to a VPP (Synergy's Battery Rewards for Synergy customers) and stays enrolled for the initial two-year term. That enrolment step sits outside the purchase and install. Missing it, or completing it late, is a common reason a claim doesn't finish on time.

Does claiming later in the year change what you get back?

Yes, on the federal side. The certificate rate under the Cheaper Home Batteries scheme steps down every six months, and the rate that applies is the one in force on the day the battery is installed — not the day you sign. A 10 kWh battery installed now earns 68 certificates; the same battery installed from January 2027 earns 57. It's one reason a firm install date belongs in the contract alongside eligibility, and why a quote can't "lock in" a rate that has already stepped down.
