sonnen Australia in voluntary administration: what it means for your battery
sonnen Australia has entered voluntary administration, and sonnen has told customers that Enervision is no longer authorised to provide service or warranty assistance on its behalf. If you own a sonnenBatterie in Perth, the support behind it has changed. Here is what has happened, where Australian Consumer Law fits, and how to decide whether to sit tight or plan a replacement.
What has happened to sonnen in Australia?
In a service notice dated 22 October 2026, sonnen told customers that sonnen Australia has entered voluntary administration, that its service agreement with its service provider, Enervision, has ended, and that Enervision is no longer authorised to provide service, technical support or warranty assistance on sonnen's behalf. For a Perth owner, that means sonnen's authorised service and warranty channel in Australia has been withdrawn.
Solar Battery Perth does not sell or install batteries and has no sonnen stock or repair work at stake, so what follows is the position as we read it.
Will my sonnen battery keep working?
Nothing in sonnen's notice says installed batteries will stop working. If your system is behaving normally, there is nothing to do to it today beyond the readiness steps below. sonnen's warranty expects the battery to stay online for its software updates, so keep it connected.
If the battery shows a fault or has stopped working, treat it as an electrical issue, not a paperwork one, and start with the installer who fitted it. Don't open the battery or try to isolate it beyond the shutdown steps in your own user manual.
Which sonnen battery do I have?
Check the label on the unit or your original invoice for the model name. The Clean Energy Council's register lists two sonnen batteries: the sonnenBatterie Evo, which is current, and the sonnenBatterie Hybrid 9.53, whose listing has ended.
- sonnenBatterie Evo. Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells, 11 kWh nominal and 10 kWh usable, with a rated AC output of 5,000 W. Its enclosure rating is IP21 to IP56 (to confirm with your installer): sonnen's technical data and the datasheet on the Clean Energy Council's product record give different figures. The register lists it as approved on 6 November 2025 and listed until 16 July 2027.
- sonnenBatterie Hybrid 9.53. The register lists builds from 2.5 to 15 kWh nominal, and its listing ended on 12 August 2025.
The model doesn't change your position on support or your consumer rights, both covered below, but it helps an installer size any replacement properly.
What does sonnen's voluntary administration mean for my warranty?
Your manufacturer warranty claim now runs through a company in administration whose authorised Australian service and warranty channel has been withdrawn, which makes it hard to rely on. Your stronger protection is the consumer guarantee under Australian Consumer Law, which applies on top of the manufacturer warranty and can usually be pursued against the business that sold you the system. That is general information, not legal advice.
sonnen's warranty document (March 2026) runs 10 years or 10,000 complete recharge cycles, whichever comes first. Under the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010), goods also come with automatic consumer guarantees that can't be signed away, including that they are of acceptable quality and will last a reasonable time. Those guarantees sit on top of any manufacturer warranty, and a consumer-guarantee remedy can usually be pursued against the supplier, the business that actually sold you the system, which for most WA homes is the retailer or installer. The remedy (a repair, replacement or refund) depends on how serious the failure is.
The practical catch: even where a remedy is owed, the business that sold you the system may not hold sonnen stock or parts, and installers sometimes close or move on, so a right on paper can be slow to enforce. For the authoritative position, see the ACCC and Consumer Protection WA, and get your own advice if a claim is significant.
Who do I contact now for sonnen service or a warranty claim?
Start with the business that sold and installed your system, because that is who your Australian Consumer Law guarantee usually runs against. sonnen has told customers that Enervision is no longer authorised to provide service, technical support or warranty assistance on its behalf.
Before you call anyone, gather your original tax invoice or contract, your warranty certificate, the installer's name and accreditation details, and your commissioning date. If the original installer is still trading, raise the consumer guarantee with them in writing. If they have closed, the ACCC and Consumer Protection WA explain your options.
Should I replace my sonnen battery or wait?
For most owners the answer is to wait and stay ready, unless the battery has already failed or you were about to spend money on it. There is no need to remove a battery that is working. Keep using it, keep your paperwork together, and watch for any update from sonnen or the administrator about ongoing support.
Replacement moves up the list if the battery has stopped working, is near the end of its life, or you were already planning a solar or battery upgrade. For Synergy customers, the WA Residential Battery Scheme pays $130 per kWh of usable capacity, up to $1,300 on the first 10 kWh, for an eligible system. One rebate applies per property, and other conditions apply. Weigh that against the cost and uncertainty of chasing a repair.
Can I still use my sonnen battery's app or VPP?
Don't rely on sonnen's app or its own VPP offer while the company is in administration. If you are enrolled in a VPP through sonnen, confirm your status, and if that income matters to you, factor it into the decision to keep or replace the battery.
In WA, VPP participation for the battery scheme runs through Synergy. A battery system needs an inverter on Synergy's Supported Solutions List to be eligible for the WA Battery Scheme. Other scheme conditions apply. The rest of the scheme is in our WA battery rebate guide.
How do I find a battery with working support behind it?
Solar Battery Perth doesn't rank brands. The battery matcher sizes options to your evening load, and you choose if and when installers contact you. Ask any installer who will handle service and warranty claims in WA, and get the answer in writing with the quote.
This page is general information about sonnen Australia's administration and Australian Consumer Law, not legal advice. The facts about the administration and the Enervision service agreement come from sonnen's own service notice dated 22 October 2026. Scheme figures are for Synergy customers and change with the scheme rules.
