Home battery installations in WA qualify for two rebates: the federal STC scheme and the WA Battery Scheme. You can claim both, and Synergy Battery Rewards adds ongoing credits on top.
Current WA Battery Scheme requirements
VPP participation has always been mandatory for a WA Battery Scheme rebate. Since 1 May 2026, new and upgraded systems must additionally meet Western Power's WEM Procedure technical standards, and rebate-claiming installations must use CSIP-AUS compliant equipment. Learn more.

The Small-scale Technology Certificate (STC) scheme provides upfront rebates for eligible solar battery installations. Maximum capacity: 50kWh. Capacity tapers apply above 14kWh under the framework in force since 1 May 2026.
*Based on 6.8 STCs/kWh (May–Dec 2026, the current factor) at ~$39.9/STC. Tapering is applied band by band: the first 14 kWh earns 100% of the factor, each kWh from 14 to 28 earns 60%, and each kWh from 28 to 50 earns 15%. Only the capacity inside a reduced band is discounted, so a 20 kWh battery keeps about 88% of its pre-taper entitlement.
Western Australia offers a state rebate for battery installations in the Synergy network. Joining a VPP is mandatory to receive it, and the battery must be installed on or after 1 July 2025.

The WA state and federal rebate schemes are separate programs, each with its own criteria and caps. You can claim both on the same battery installation.
Maximum combined benefit (current STC rates):
For a 10kWh battery: up to $2,713 (federal) + $1,300 (WA state) = $4,013 total rebate
Most residential batteries are 10-13kWh. WA state rebate caps at $1,300 (10kWh). Federal STCs vary by size and timing.

The two rebates are claimed differently. The federal STC discount is applied by your installer; the WA rebate is lodged for you by an approved vendor.
Important note
Most installers handle the entire STC rebate process on your behalf. The rebate value is deducted from your final invoice, meaning you pay less upfront. Always confirm this with your installer before signing any contracts.
